Evening flying over snow is pure magic

Welcome to the Datum Inc. website.  We're in the business of making ultralight and homebuilt builders and owners enjoy their past time more - we sell success!  Because of over 20 years of experience building homebuilt aircraft, we have the expertise to help aircraft homebuilders do it more safely.  Datum Inc, established in 1992, has provided first quality products and services from one end of Canada to the other.

I'm Jean-Marc Augé, the president of Datum Inc. I speak French, English and some Spanish and love to talk about airplanes.  Over the past decade and a half I have built 45 homebuilt aircraft, including Lazairs, Kit Foxes, Cavalier, a Tundra, a Decathalon and 40 Challengers.  I've also consulted on many other homebuilt projects so, if you need help with your homebuilt project, I'm your man.

Tome Simko's Rans 7, looking good on Datum wheel skis
Tom Simko, a crane operator in Idaho, is enjoying the freedom his Datum wheel skis bring him.  Check out these photos and see some of the beautiful landscape he gets to fly over and land on because of his retractable skis.
Datum wheel skis in the Czech Republic

Jan Christof of the Czech Republic is the proud owner of this homebuilt.  It rests on a set of Datum wheel skis and you can tell by the smile on his face that he's getting a lot of enjoyment from winter flying.  You can see more photos of his aircraft in action here.

Datumair Series 2000 wheel skis on Rans S7

Mike Willey, a resident of Maine, owns this beautiful Rans S7.  He decided that he didn't want snow to get in the way of his flying enjoyment, so he purchases a set of our Series 2000 retractable skis.  He made this great video showing the landing/takeoff flexibility of an aircraft outfitted with our skis.  More photos here.

We're really happy to announce that Datum Inc. has a new product.  We have a retract system for the wheels associated with your Puddle Jumper floats.  We're gearing up for production so contact us for details.  Enjoy the video.

Our new tail wheel ski

We're thrilled to announce that our tail ski is now available for sale.

The through-wheel ski is 26" long and 13" wide.  It weighs only 4 pounds and is compatible with 6" and 8" Matco tail wheels.

The best part is that you can have one of these for only $550 CDN.

We sold a set of our Series1500 skis to Urs and Daniel, in Switzerland.  This is what they had to say:

Hello Jean-Marc,

I'm Urs from Switzerland and you delivered to us, with the help of Tom Huber, the perfect skis for our Savage. They works very good and we've already made some flights on snow.

It feels like paradise when you touch the powder snow as sometimes you not realise the moment of the touchdown - it is so smooth!

A great thank you from Switzerland

You did a great job and we really enjoy our skis.

Happy landings

Urs and Daniel

You can see more photos of Urs, Daniel and their Savage here. Two happy Datum retractable ski customers

We've just heard from Arturo Polo_Ena who is enjoying the Spanish high country with his new DatumAir 1500s on his beautiful Savage.  Arturo is a professional photographer and his photos are great!  Check out other photos here.

Paul Quidoz has done a marvelous job of rebuilding his Taylorcraft.  He lives in Montreal, Quebec and loves to fly in the winter.  So, his father suggested that he buy a set of DatumAir retractable skis so he could enjoy Quebec winters.  He did just that and is thrilled with their performance.  For more photos, Click here.
